Correct: d) 1 God, 4 Goddesses, 2 Ganeshas and 1 Buddha

This question came up recently. A student felt that their weren't enough images of the Goddess at the studio. So I counted:

In fact there is only one image of a god, (Krishna,) 4 goddesses (one Radha, one Kwan Yin, two Lakshmi,) two Ganesha (the elephant deity) and One Buddha (Thai version which is not a god.) So the number of statuary at Eyes is actually lopsided towards the Goddess.

The Indian tradition is both monotheistic and non-theistic. There is really only one Ultimate wth many different aspects. These deities are not outside of "you." They represent different consciousnesses of the One Reality.

Radha and Krishna are representations of love, health, and well being. They represent romantic love and all the life sustaining forces in the universe.
Kwan Yin is the Chinese goddess of Compassion.
Lakshmi is the goddess of abundance and prosperity.
Ganesha, the beneficient elephant headed deity, is the "remover of obstacles."

The Thai version of the Buddha which is in the studio is a repsentation of a "man" who woke up to Reality. The story goes like this:

The villagers asked him: "Are you a god?"

"No" replied the Buddha.

"Are you a spirit, ghost or apparition?"

"No."

"Are you a man?"

"No." (now things really got interesting.)

"What are you?" the villagers asked.

The Buddha replied, "awake."
