- What is required for certification? Successful completion of Parts One, Two and Three.
- Part One: 100 hours Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training. Attendance at all weekends. No partial attendance. If unusual circumstances arise, please speak with Tom.
- Successful completion of the final exams. There will be 5 quizzes, during weekends 2-6. The quizzzes will prepare you for finals on weekend 7. You will be given all the questions and all the answers. No surprises. You will be asked "Core" questions, for example what are the Yamas and the Niyamas, over and over again until you commit them to long term memory.. You will need a passing grade of 90% on the "Core" exam. You will need a 80% grade on the philosophy exam, an 80% on the anatomy exam and an 80% on the names of sanskrit postures exam. At the end, you will know your stuff better than most yoga teachers in the US today. You will feel confident about your knowledge.
- Three grades are given. "Retest" means you need to take that section again, "Pass" means you completed it successfully and "A+ Honors" for anyone who scores over 100 %. Extra credit questions are given. You are given all the answers ahead of time. Because you are tested and retested on the same questions over and over, it is not just short term memorization. You will know this material cold when it comes to the finals. This method of teaching, testing and retesting has proven itself in helping you develop a huge body of knowledge that you can access when you are teaching a yoga class.
- Completing a 300 word writing assignment and an oral presentation.
- Part Two: Experiential requirement. 50 hours. a total of 36 yoga classes with Tom
- Part Three: Successful completion of the Apprenticeship and Certification program. 50 hours. You are ready to be certified when Tom determines you are ready.
- What are the steps in the Apprenticeship and Certification Program?
- 1) Observing and Assisting Tom in a minimum of 5 classes.
- 2) Attending 8 Saturday and Sunday workshops. See dates.
- 3) Teaching a minimum of 6 classes somewhere in your area, at a local health club, YMCA and the like.
- 4) After you have taught a minimum of 6 classes somewhere and when you are ready, Tom will come and mentor your class. At Eyes of the World, we offer "Community Yoga Classes" on special Saturdays and Sundays in May June and July. This is when you and the other teachers try out your vinyasa skills. This is where Tom can offer you very specific helpful guidance on your next steps as a yoga teacher. In 15 years, Tom has mentored and certified many hundreds of yoga teachers. This is a rare and invaluable opportunity.
